Weekend Meditation Retreat: Vajrapani Bhutadamara

  • Sakya Buddhist Center, Los Angeles 220 Pier Avenue Santa Monica, CA, 90405 United States (map)

Step Into a Space of Power, Clarity, and Compassion

Join us for a rare and transformative weekend retreat focused on the powerful figure of Vajrapani Bhutadamara — the embodiment of the enlightened energy of all the buddhas. This special two to three-day retreat will be led by Lama Jampa Thaye, a renowned master of the Sakya tradition.

Whether you’re deep in your practice or just beginning your journey in Vajrayana Buddhism, this retreat offers an extraordinary opportunity to receive direct teachings, deepen your meditation, and engage with a supportive spiritual community.

What to Expect

A Full Weekend of Practice and Teaching

Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, Lama Jampa will bestow the initiation (wang) and explanation (tri) of Vajrapani Bhutadamara, a powerful protector practice traditionally used to clear inner and outer obstacles to spiritual development.

Step-by-Step Guidance on the Practice

You’ll receive teachings based on a clear and accessible text composed by the great Sakya master Zuchen Tsultrim Rinchen, designed to help you engage meaningfully with the practice beyond the retreat.

Group Meditation Sessions

You’ll be guided through focused sessions of meditation, supported by the presence and energy of fellow practitioners, in a space that’s both sacred and grounded. A third day of guided practice is also available.

Refuge and Bodhisattva Vow Ceremony

Lama Jampa will bestow refuge and the bodhisattva vow as part of the initiation. This is open to all participants, whether it’s your first time or a reaffirmation of your path.

The Atmosphere

Expect a friendly and welcoming environment with time for personal reflection, silent practice, and community connection. Set in the heart of Santa Monica, our space at Dechen Los Angeles offers a calm and inspiring setting just a short walk from the ocean.

Whether you’re seeking renewal, clarity, or a deepening of your connection to Vajrayana practice, this weekend will offer guidance, support, and inspiration.

Who Should Attend?

This retreat is open to all who are sincerely interested in Vajrayana Buddhism. No prior initiation is required, but we recommend familiarity with the Buddhist teachings.

This retreat is especially relevant for those who received the Vajrapani Bhutadamara initiation from Sakya Gongma Trichen during his visit to Dechen LA in August 2024. Lama Jampa will offer the initiation again, along with the practice transmission (lung), explanation (tri), and guided group sessions to deepen your understanding and confidence in the sadhana.

Spots are limited. Please register in advance to ensure your place.

We look forward to welcoming you into this powerful weekend of practice.
