Evening Teaching: Initiation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig

  • Sakya Buddhist Center, Los Angeles 220 Pier Avenue Santa Monica, CA, 90405 United States (map)

A Profound Blessing of Compassion

Join Lama Jampa Thaye for this special evening as he bestows the Initiation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig — a powerful and widely practiced form of the Buddha of Compassion.

This initiation comes from the lineage of the great Indian nun Lakshminkara, and is closely associated with the Nyungné fasting ritual, a deeply purifying practice of devotion and restraint centered on Chenrezig.

What to Expect

A Direct Connection to Compassion

The Thousand-Armed form of Chenrezig symbolizes the all-encompassing reach of enlightened compassion — with each hand extending to benefit beings in every realm of suffering.

Lineage of Lakshminkara

This rare and beautiful transmission connects us to the wisdom and realization of one of the great female lineage-holders of Vajrayana Buddhism.

Refuge and Bodhisattva Vow

As part of the initiation, Lama Jampa will bestow refuge and the bodhisattva vow, inviting us to formally enter or reaffirm our path of compassionate commitment.

Who Should Attend?

All are welcome — whether you’re new to Buddhist practice or already familiar with Chenrezig meditations. This initiation offers both blessing and permission to engage with this transformative practice in your daily life or as part of the Nyungné fasting retreat.

We encourage early arrival and advance registration.

We look forward to practicing with you on this powerful evening of compassion and commitment.
