Sangha Visit to The Gentle Barn
Several members of the Sakya Buddhist Temple enjoyed a magical morning at The Gentle Barn, an animal sanctuary in Santa Clarita, yesterday as part of our developing community outreach work.
The Gentle Barn is an organization that rescues farm animals from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. They rehabilitate the animals with nutrition, medicine, and care from staff and volunteers. The Gentle Barn also offers animal-assisted therapy programs for children and at-risk youth.
During our visit we heard about the Gentle Barn’s mission from its founder Ellie Laks and then visited with all the beautiful animals now enjoying happiness, healing and freedom. We hugged the cows, fed the horses and spent quality time with the turkeys, piggies, goats, donkeys and even a llama or two! It was a joyful and deeply moving time for us all.
